13 May 2015 GROUP FEEDBACK of YOUR 4 HAIKU LITANY POEMS FAVORITE THINGS POEMS WORK TIME BELL ACTIVITY: Make sure your heading is on your haiku rough drafts and put them in the basket. Write your ID number on your Haiku Final drafts & place them in the box at the front of the room. Put your heading on a blank sheet of paper TODAY’S AGENDA: What if I have not finished my 4 Haiku? Your Haiku Part I grade will be recorded as LATE. Work on your Haiku assignment while the rest of the class works on the feedback process. Write your full heading on your final draft sheet as it won’t be a part of the peer review. When you finish, put your rough drafts in the basket and your final drafts in the LATE & ABSENT WORK BASKET. Then read silently or work on your Concrete Abstract Part II.

GIVING FEEDBACK ON FOUR HAIKU As you review someone’s haiku poems, write down their ID number on your paper and follow the steps below. Step 1: Read through all 4 haiku one time, quickly. Step 2: On your paper quickly write down which of the 4 seemed strongest and which weakest. Step 3: Carefully reread all four haiku again. Step 4: Consider imagery, poetic sound devices (alliteration, assonance, consonance & onomatopoeia) Step 5: Count the syllables. Step 6: Rethink which is strongest and weakest. Step 7: Make a second list on your paper and list the haiku from the strongest to the weakest. Step 8: On the back of their Haiku write a copy of your second list. Step 9: Return this set of Haiku to the box and pick up another set to process through the steps.

DETERMINE WHAT YOU NEED TO WORK ON….. USE THIS CLASS TIME TO WRITE AND REVISE HAIKU REVISION TIPS: Don’t waste a haiku syllable. Don’t let yourself “fill up” the syllables. Use each syllable wisely. Each line in a haiku should contain imagery A haiku is like a zoomed in snap shot, not a wide angle shot that tells an entire story or a video. CONCRETE ABSTRACTS: Double check to make sure you didn’t describe an abstract with an abstract. Develop your similes with specific descriptions. Replace words like “red” with “the softly worn red of Dad’s old pickup”
