2008 Action Plan Results 1.Greater involvement of SDDOT Road Design Office in Roadway Safety Advisory Committee. 2.Ask Metropolitan Planning Organizations to join the Roadway Safety Advisory Committee 3.Ask the Game Fish and Parks Department to assign a representative to the Roadway Safety Advisory Committee. 4.Discuss the Strategic Highway Safety Plan and new Roadway Safety Advisory Committee member involvement at the annual Transportation Safety Conference. 5.Organize Roadway Safety Advisory Committee meetings, making a special effort to get attendance from new members.

2008 Action Plan Results 6.Assess how tribal government participation in the Roadway Safety Advisory Committee be encouraged. 7.Assess how the Roadway Safety Advisory Committee can communicate with new, private highway safety advocacy groups 8.Compile report reviewing progress on performance measures in 2008. 9.Create an action plan for 2009.

2009 Action Plan 1.SDDOT plans to discuss the possibility of memorandums of agreement in which the tribes would commit to sharing crash reports with the state during the annual SDDOT-Tribal consultation meetings to be held in early 2009. 2.Technical panel for the proposed study of driver education in South Dakota will meet, outline objectives and select an organization to do the study. 3.Create a policy outlining the criteria for selecting projects for the Highway Safety Improvement Program. 4.Align the SDDOT Strategic Highway Safety Plan goals with the Department of Public Safety’s Highway Safety Goals.

2009 Action Plan 5.Work with DPS to find an entity or entities to analyze both DPS crash data and SDDOT engineering data to more accurately assess crash-prone locations and to determine cost- effective solutions. 6.Staff from a cross section of SDDOT offices will be active in the Roadway Safety Advisory Committee. 7.Broad participation from SDDOT staff in the Transportation Safety Conference. 8.Assess how the Roadway Safety Advisory Committee can communicate with new, private highway safety advocacy groups.
