Our goals Procedural Fairness and Consistency at All Levels from point of hire to tenure and promotion Clear, Focused, Ongoing Evaluation and Feedback via annual review letters Formal Presentation of Accomplishments in T&P E- dossier whose content is consistent with that emphasized in annual reviews

Calendar of Key Steps Mandatory Tenure Review in Year 6 Dossier Preparation Generally Begins in Spring of Yr. 5 Departmental Review in Fall of Yr. 6 Department Chair’s Independent Recommendation (letter approximately October 1) CoLA P&T Committee Review Minimum of 9 Faculty at Rank of Professor At least 3 each from Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences Recommendation by Dean (letter before/after Thanksgiving) Review and Recommendation by Provost (letter before/after Spring Break) Final Action by Board of Trustees

What counts on Your cv? Entire record is reviewed. Work since hire or last promotion is most critical. Work since hire or last promotion goes on “grid.” CoLA’s offer letter language: Scholarly work completed prior to taking this appointment will be considered as part of the tenure and promotion case. Such a prior record may complement but not substitute for a record of academic achievement at SIUC, the latter being essential. Overall trajectory and pattern of work is critical.

For early promotion to Associate Professor, tenure automatically follows promotion. Department, College, and Provost want to see evidence of productivity at SIUC. Discuss pre-SIUC work with Chair, note Dean’s annual review letter, and meet with the Dean. How early is “Too Early” ?

When is the dossier finalized? Once dossier is submitted for departmental-level review, it is Closed. No additional material can be added except for Chair’s letter, Dean’s letter, and if desired faculty rebuttal letter. Faculty member may pull or withdraw a dossier once it has begun the review process. Review process otherwise continues from Department to College to Provost to Board of Trustees.
