9 Forming Joining the group and defining the purpose Work is assigned to the group members Uncertainty about group’s purpose structure and leadership

10 Storming There is conflict due to different opinions of members Conflict about who will be the leader of the Group This stage completed when a clear hierarchy of leadership is made

11 Norming Close relationship developed within the group Group become cohesive Completed when structure is clearly solidifies

12 Performing It is the fourth stage of group development when the group is fully functional and performed their group tasks.

13 Adjourning Concern with wrapping up activities rather than task performing Responses varies from individual to individual within the group

16 Group Properties Status A socially defined position or rank given to groups or group members by others. Size Size of the group affect the group’s overall behavior. Smaller groups are faster at completing tasks than the larger ones. Cohesiveness The degree to which group members are attracted to each other and are motivated to stay in the group.

17 Group Decision Making Techniques Brain Storming It is known as generating alternatives and Ideas Nominal Group Technique In this technique a group meets formally but does not restrict independent thinking Delphi (Electronic) Technique The technique has great value because it has ability to generate a number of independent judgments without the involvement of members face-to-face.

18 “Group Behavior in sociology refers to the situations where people interact in large or small groups. The field of group deals with small groups that may reach consensus and act in a coordinated way.”
