Literary techniques used in this poem: Personification - the endowment of inanimate objects or abstract concepts with animate or living qualities Example: "Time let me play / and be golden in the mercy of his means" underline or highlight examples in the poem Apostrophe - a direct address of an inanimate object, abstract qualities, or a person not living or present. Example: "Beware, O Asparagus, you've stalked my last meal.“ Underline or highlight examples in the poem How would this poem be different if there was neither personification nor apostrophe? How does the writer feel about Chicago? What lines in the poem reflect this? How well does the poem match with your understanding of Chicago during the turn of the century? Why?
