7 Name of Museum King Tutankhamen’s tomb is one of the very few tomb’s that were untouched by tomb robbers. King Tut’s tomb is a four room underground burial chamber filled with gold, jewelry, artwork, and lots of other stuff. King Tut became pharaoh when he was just nine years old. He died at about the age of eighteen. He ruled from 1333 to 1323 BC and was discovered in 1922 by Egyptologist Howard Carter. He was buried in the Valley of the King’s in southern Egypt, just north of Luxor. King Tut had many names such as Tut, Tutankhamen, and Tutankhamun. Ancient Egyptians were an advanced civilization because evidence of art was found. Introduction Back to Room 1

8 Name of Museum Three examples of art show that ancient Egyptians were an advanced civilization. The first example of art that helped show that ancient Egyptians were an advanced civilization was the guilded cow’s head, the god Hathor. Hathor ruled the land of the west, which was known as the land of the dead and King Tut’s tomb was buried west of the Nile. The second example of art that helped show that ancient Egyptians were an advanced civilization was the statue Anubis, the god of embalming. Anubis sat in front of the the treasury guarding King Tut’s treasures. The third example of art that helped show that ancient Egyptians were an advanced civilization was Selket. Selket was a goddess that made sure no one got into the shrine of King Tut. The writing above shows that helped show ancient Egyptians were an advanced civilization. Body Paragraph Back to Room 2
