What is stress? The body’s reactions to any demand or change placed upon it. Can stress be positive?

Types of Stress Distress : negative stress. Stress that prevents you from doing what you need to do or that causes you discomfort Eustress : positive stress. Stress that can help you to accomplish goals.

Distress Distress causes these symptoms : Feeling worried and uptight Discomfort and illness Lower performance level Feeling tired

Alarm Stage The body recognizes a stressor The body quickly reacts to take action

Resistance Stage Stressor continues and the body tries to withstand the stress and return to normal

Exhaustion Stage The body can no longer cope with the stress and you become physically and/or mentally exhausted Deplete body’s resources. So we function at less than normal
