WOW! There were five tribes that came together to form the Iroquois League. The five tribes were the Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, and Mohawk.

The Iroquois lived in the Eastern Woodlands Cultural Region. The Iroquois lived around Lake Ontario and the Atlantic Ocean. The Iroquois also lived in the Southern Eastern part of Canada.

When an Iroquois hunter killed a deer,he knelt beside it and spoke to it. The Iroquois felt a deep connection to the animals, trees, and mother earth. The Iroquois religious beliefs were on the handsome lake and the great spirit.

The Iroquois hunted and farmed. Iroquois hunted animals that were plentiful in the area such as deer, bear, elk, and beavers for food. Iroquois grew crops such as corn,beans,and squash in the fertile soil on farms.

The Iroquois shows a longhouse, an Iroquois building used for shelter Young trees provided poles for the frame, and slabs of elm bark served as walls. The Iroquois longhouse could be as long as 150 feet, half of a football field

o The five tribes had 50 representatives that were all men of the great council. o Older women chose their representatives and could remove representatives o The Iroquois council made decisions for the whole league

The Iroquois women and children own there homes. Families often lived in longhouses. In 1 longhouse more then 12 families lived in the home

The Iroquois used the skin and fur of animals they killed Iroquois men wore deerskin leggings, shirts, and moccasins, women wore leggings, shirts, skirts, and moccasins. Iroquois children wore clothes similar to the adults. Babies wore diapers made from the fat end a cattail

o The Iroquois where actually called Haudenosaunee. o Wampum are (Polished seashells)that were hung n strings or woven into belts. o Today the Iroquois live in New York
