Images in Plane Mirrors -using the Law of Reflection, you can predict how the image will look and it’s four characteristics: SALT 1.Size (same, larger or smaller than the original) 2.Attitude(upright or inverted) 3.Location (closer, farther or the same distance as the object in the mirror) 4.Type (real or virtual) The image in a plane mirror will be: 1.Same size as the object. 2.Same orientation as the object. 3.Same distance from the mirror as the object. 4.Image is virtual.

Images in Plane Mirrors There are two methods for finding the location of an image in plane mirrors: 1.Use a protractor -use two incident rays for two selected points and trace the two reflected rays back until they intersect (with dashed lines behind the mirror) 2.Use a ruler -the location for each object point is the same distance (on the other side of the mirror) for each of the image points

Images in Plane Mirrors Applications of plane mirrors: 1.Household mirrors -for personal hygiene 2. Stealth technology -have the ability to avoid radar because: a.the paint absorbs radar b.the flat, sharp edges will not allow radar waves to reflect back to the antenna dish
