PART D: The Earth’s Elliptical Orbit around the Sun 1.Tie small loops in each end of the string as shown in the diagram on p686. 2.Pick a point about the middle of the large paper and put the two loops together over the point. Put the dowel vertically through the loops and press the dowel tightly onto the table. 3.Do step 3- 5 on p686-87 using a pencil. For #5: 2@ >20cm 1@ <20 cm 4.When done, draw a quick sketch of the poster paper in your notebook under the title: Part D- The Earth’s Elliptical Orbit around the Sun WHEN DONE answer on POSTER: One way that Earth’s orbital shape might influence global climate is ________________.

Reflecting on the Activity and the Challenge Literacy Frame p688 In this activity you modeled the _______ of the Earth’s axis (also known as ____________) to investigate the effect of the angle of the _________’s rays. You _________________that the obliquity of the Earth explains why there are __________of the year. You also noticed that the elliptical orbit around the Sun changes and is a major theory for explaining why Earth’s __________ changes over time.
