Quick Oral Review 1. Monosaccharides include fructose and _____ 2. String a whole bunch of monosaccharides or sugars together and you get a ______________ 3. Enzymes are a type of ________________ 4. Describe enzymes with as many details as possible 5. Cellulose, Chitin and Glycogen are types of _____________ 6. The macromolecule of genetics and heredity is ______________ which includes _____ & ____ 7. Describe lipids (monomers of, function of, types of)

Reminders Rough Draft of your Abstract is due NOW (printed and ready to be checked at the BEGINNING of class). Root Quiz on TOMORROW 12-2-14 Biochemistry Exam on Wed, 12-3-14. Chapter 6 Science Fair is on Wed 12/10/14. Everything will be due in class on Monday 12/8/14. Do you have a family member who is knowledgeable in science and might be interested in judging? If so…let me know 5 pts. EC for turning your project in anytime between 12-3- 14 and 12-5-14. The entire project! Go to room 1135 Tues or Thurs for Science Peer Tutoring during PLC

QUIZ Clear your desks of everything Do NOT write on the quiz please Use CAPITAL letters please Keep your answers covered If you need to make up a quiz due to an absence… come see me Tues or Thurs during PLC Flip it over when you are finished and hang on to it.

9 week exam question 35

Today’s Objective: Objective: Biochemistry and organic compounds. Formation of monomers into polymers by Dehydration synthesis. The breakdown of polymers into monomers. Carbohydrates, Lipids and proteins- structures and functions.

Biomolecules- Food Testing Lab I will put you into groups Each group will test their food substance for proteins, monosaccharides, polysaccharides and lipids. If your group has time you may test more than one unknown substance. Create a data table to record your unknown and what it tests positive for and what it tests negative for Instructions for how to perform each test (protein, monosaccharide, polysaccharide and lipid) are on the tables Wear aprons!!!! Be careful of the hot plates Clean up your tables and hang up your aprons

Exit Ticket **use a complete sentence to answer these questions and hand it to me as you exit the classroom 1. What are the four biomolecule polymers? 2. What monomer is a carbohydrate made from? 3. What monomer makes up a protein? 4. What components make up a lipid?

Exit Ticket 1. Please compare and contrast hydrolysis and dehydration synthesis. dehydration synthesis. 2. Carbohydrates are one of the four biologic macromolecules(biomolecules). They are a polymer. What monomer are they made from?

Exit Ticket 1. Please compare and contrast hydrolysis and dehydration synthesis. synthesis. 2. Please explain where dehydration synthesis occurs in your body. 3. What biomolecule is cellulose? 4. Why are lipids necessary?

Oral Conclusion 1.Please describe the base pairing rules of DNA and of RNA 2. Describe the structure of DNA 3. How are RNA and DNA different? 4. Describe DNA Replication. 5. Describe Transcription 6. Describe Translation 7. Describe a mutation 8. Describe a Frame Shift Mutation

Oral Conclusion 1.Please give an example of a limiting factor 2.Describe one way humans are impacting the nitrogen cycle 3.Describe one way humans are impacting the carbon cycle 4.How are microorganisms such as bacteria beneficial to an ecosystem? Organism? 5.Give an example of a producer. A consumer 6.Describe biological magnification. 7.Give an example of an abiotic factor. A biotic factor. 8.Describe an invasive species and give an example. 9.Why does only 10% of the energy move from trophic level to trophic level? 10.How is primary succession different from secondary succession? 11.Compare and contrast natural and artificial selection. 12.Give an example of evolution. 13.Describe two – evidence of evolution. 14.Compare and contrast natural and artificial selection 15. Compare and contrast eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells 16. How are plant and animal cells different?
