B LOOMFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS Learning and Growing Together Connecticut Public Act 11-232 Intent: The Safe School Climate Plan represents a comprehensive approach to promoting a positive, supportive school climate in which bullying, harassment and discrimination are not tolerated by students or school employees. 2

B LOOMFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS Learning and Growing Together Legal Requirements Clearly described by PA 11-232 The Bloomfield Board of Education must adopt a Safe School Climate Plan by January 2012 The plan must integrate all elements of the legislation: –Each school must have a designated safe school climate specialist and safe school climate committee; –School employees who witness acts of bullying or receive reports of bullying must notify the safe school climate specialist or another school administrator; –Each school must have a prevention and intervention strategy; –Each school must notify parents or guardians of all students involved in a verified act of bullying no later than 48 hours after completion of an investigation; –Establish a procedure for each school to document and maintain records relating to reports and investigations of bullying; –Outline safety support plans for students against whom bullying was directed to protect against more bullying. 3
