CCHE690 MEDIA REVIEW Having taught for Yavapai college in Prescott for many years after having taught at Universal Technical Institute in Phoenix. I am very interested in the inequalities that exist in faculty workload, pay, and release time among different schools including public.2 and 4 year as well as privates. There are major differences in these areas not only between schools in different categories i.e... 2 vs. 4 year but also between say two year public schools. My thoughts are if faculty are doing the same job shouldn’t the areas of workload, release time and especially pay be somewhat uniform?

QUALIFICATIONS YAVAPAI FACULTY Associate Faculty: General Education (Transfer): 1. Master’s degree in the field to be taught; OR 2. Master’s degree in any field with 18 graduate semester hours in the field to be taught; OR 3. Master’s degree in any field with 24 upper- division or a combination of upper-division and graduate semester hours in the field to be taught; OR 4. Other credentials may be considered by the Instructional Dean in cases of instructional emergencies with approval by the Vice President for Instruction and Student Services. YAVAPAI FACULTY Associate Faculty: Credentialing Requirements for Faculty Teaching Coursework in Occupational Terminal Degree Programs 1. Same qualifications are preferred for faculty teaching transferable coursework; OR 2. Bachelor’s degree in the discipline to be taught; OR 3. Associate’s degree in the discipline to be taught; OR 4. Five (5) years recent work experience in the field to be taught; OR 5. Specialized certificate in the field to be taught may be considered for terminal degree and certificate programs only.

QUALIFICATIONS TYLER JUNIOR COLLEGE FACULTY Associate Professor (transfer): 1.Master's degree in field required, or actively working toward a Masters degree with at least 50% of course work completed will be considered. 2. Student centered in methodology and classroom procedures. 3.Willingness to utilize distance learning strategies and latest multimedia technologies. Must be computer literate. TYLER JUNIOR COLLEGE FACULTY Associate Professor Trades: 1.Associate degree in related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred. 2.Teaching experience in a community or technical college automotive program preferred. 3. Three years work experience in the field required.

Candidates should provide evidence of a strong record of scholarship as well as a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring students. 3. For consideration at the Associate Professor rank, a candidate must either already be at that rank, or meet UT Tyler criteria for tenure and Associate Professor rank. NAU Instructor: 1.Minimum Qualifications Master's degree AND Demonstrated teaching experience (entire courses) at the university or college level. 2. Preferred Qualifications * PHD

QUALIFICATIONS NAU Lecturer: Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. NAU Assistant Professor Position: Minimum Qualifications A Ph.D. (1) evidence of successful teaching experience at the university level; (2) evidence of experience with learner-centered pedagogy (such as blended learning strategies, online instruction, short courses, and problem-based learning); (3) experience teaching (or willingness to contribute to) the department's core curriculum at the undergraduate and especially graduate levels; (4) evidence of teaching and/or research (5) strong quantitative research skills and a demonstrated capability to teach quantitative research methods; (6) evidence of an active research agenda; and (7) a commitment to working effectively within a diverse university community.

FACULTY JOB DUTIES YC-PROFESSOR- FACULTY Associate Faculty: Responsibilities will include course preparation and instruction; curriculum development; participation in the college community and continued professional growth activities; and creative program building based on needs assessment and in collaboration with other faculty. May be asked to teach other courses in disciplines in which she/he is able to be credentialed. Since service to our students is our highest priority, instructors can expect to participate in innovative methods and assignments may be multi-campus with the possibility of interactive, online, day, evening and/or weekend classes. TYLER JUNIOR COLLEGE-FACULTY Associate professor: ten-month faculty position responsible to the dean, nursing and health sciences and the professor/department chair, Duties may include day and evening courses both on and off campus. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, promoting and facilitating community awareness of the program, performing student evaluations, and maintaining appropriate records and office hours. FACULTY JOB DUTIES NAU Lecturer: The position is non tenure track and requires teaching four courses per semester. NAU Assistant Professor Position: The teaching load will be 3/2 courses a year, with an expectation to participate in learner-centered pedagogy (such as blended learning strategies and web-based delivery) and service in contribution to department and university needs. An active research agenda is expected, though the specific areas of research expertise or specialization are open.

OVERVIEW OF COMPARISONS 2 YEAR COLLEGES 1.Qualifications, less education required but pay amounts also less 2. Job descriptions, easier to find and detailed. Less academic freedom. 3. Load hours more defined. These colleges are more controlling on faculty time spent on task. 4 YEAR COLLEGES 1. Educational qualifications very stringent even for non-tenured track. Tenure track usually requires prior evidence of university teaching. 2. Job descriptions harder to find. Usually defined simply as teaching. Very free academically. 3. Load hours not defined very well other than number of classes required to teach per semester. Load release time for research
