Childhood and Family He was born in Wilmington, North Carolina on October 28,1936.He grew up in Chatham County, North Carolina. He married his wife, Hazel, in 1963. They have one son, Charlie Daniels Jr.

History of playing instruments He played the banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and guitar by the time he graduated high school. He began playing and performing music in the 1950’s.

Discography Some of his albums include Honey in the Rock(1973), Way down Yonder(1974), Fire on the Mountain(1974), Me and the Boys(1985), and Redneck Fiddlin’ Man(2002).

Awards Grammy Award for the Best Country Vocal Performance in 1979 for “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” Americana Music Association “Spirit of Americana” in 2006

Adult life He enjoys hunting, fishing, skydiving, and other outdoor stuff. He is a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA).
