3 Information provided to the public by a group or organization. The goal is to induce the reader to agree with the issuer’s point of view.

5 To Persuade To induce a target audience to undertake a course of action (or to embrace a point of view) through argument, reasoning or entreaty.

6 How did the propaganda reach the masses? Radio, newspaper, magazines, and posters

7 Terms to Know Basic Message: The base message that the advertiser is trying to say. Visual Message: Objects, word, and pictures that the advertiser uses to get your attention.

8 Name calling. Glittering generalities. The device of transfer. The device of the testimonial. The device of plain folk. Card stacking. The band wagon device. 7 Common Devices Used With Propaganda

9 Propaganda can be as blatant as a swastika or as subtle as a humorous joke. Its persuasive techniques are regularly applied by politicians, advertisers, journalists, radio personalities, and others who are interested in influencing how humans behave Propagandistic messages can be used to accomplish positive social ends, as in campaigns to reduce drunk driving, to win elections, and cause people to hate others.

10 Using Fear Uncertainty and the fear of the worst can influence people into action to protect their own.

11 Persuading the Children "Youth Serves the Führer. All 10- year-olds into the Hitler Youth. " Membership in the Hitler Youth was mandatory in 1936 The Poisonous Mushroom by Julius Streicher. This children’s book was often taught in schools.

12 Diminishing the Soul "The Jew: The inciter of war, the prolonger of war." "The Eternal Jew."

13 “The Seed of Peace Not Dragons Teeth” The angel in the background suggests that German greatness is a positive thing and not a threat. This imagery is quite deliberate and is based on a parable in the bible of a man sowing seeds, which suggests a link between Hitler and God.

15 Newspaper Cartoons The cartoon shows a photograph of a Jew captioned "Satan." Streicher regularly used the old religious argument that the Jews were in league with the Devil.

16 Now it is Your Turn! Create your own Persuasive Poster on the following topic: A social issue that affects students at WKC-.

17 This could include negative subjects like: racism, drug abuse, bullying etc. Or positive subjects like: joining an activity, inclusion of our FIAP students Your job is to advocate towards the positive side of the social issue. Do not use this project to promote anything illegal. If you are unsure if your idea is relevant ask Ms.Lock.

18 REQUIREMENTS The target audience is the students and staff of WKC. Use at least two of the persuasive devices mentioned. Use color and images that have an impact on the viewer. Use any media you would like, but it MUST BE IN COLOUR. The size must 11x17 in size.

19 Grading Criteria Your grade will be determined by the overall design and whether you have met all the criteria listed in the rubric. There is evidence that you used the persuasive device to capture the attention of your audience. You demonstrated a mastery of suggestion by your word choices or other alliteration devices. Evidence in effort, forethought and planning. Total mark will be out of 50 marks
