Bomb Decisions Manhattan Project started under FDR FDR died in 1945 and Truman became Pres Truman didn’t know anything about bomb Two choices – Invade mainland Japan – Drop bomb Estimated save 500,000 + US lives by dropping bomb Truman didn’t like using the bomb even though it was final decision
