ALL ALL bell work from the second (2 nd ) nine weeks will be part of the MUG Shot(Mechanics, Usage and Grammar). The student will write the bell work sentence in his/her journal and make any corrections in the sentence with a different color pen or pencil. Paragraph Quiz Paragraph Quiz on every 5 th class day and the journal will be shown to Mrs. Barnett for grading of the other four (4) bell works.

Reminder: – Label the Bell work #31 – Write the sentence and correct any problems with a pen or another colored pencil – 5-minute writing

Student’s are to pick a book of interest to the student Student’s book must have 150 pages and be school appropriate.

Essential Questions: Questions/Scenario that focuses the learner probes for deeper meaning Why did you choose this book? How can you persuade your audience to read the selection? What hook can you use to start your booktalk? What is the ethical use of podcasts? How will you end your podcast to persuade the reader to choose your book?

Performance Tasks: Students will complete a podcast and it will be uploaded to Mrs. Barnett’s website promoting a book of their choice. Other Evidence: Students will demonstrate knowledge of writing a persuasive booktalk by promoting their book without giving away too much. Podcasts will be posted to the website as a form of book promotion.

Students should have read the novel they will be book talking. Students should be able to use Microsoft Word. Students should be able to operate a digital video recorder. Students will work to create a written script for their book talk using Microsoft Word. Students will be given a rubric for their script. The script must be approved by the teacher before students begin practicing.(A sample script is provided.) Students will practice performing their script before recording. Any needed adjustments should be made to the script during this time. Students should be prepared to perform the book talk. Before recording the student will write the booktalk and then record the booktalk with http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. All of the students' digital book talks will be shown to the class. Each student will vote anonymously for the book talk that is the best and deserves to be shown to the student body.
