2 Igloos, or the Ice Houses are built of snow and ice in very cold places like Canada’s Central Arctic and Greenland’s Thule area.

3 What does an igloo consist of? An igloo consists of blocks of ice. The roof has a small hole for fresh air. The short door is covered by animal skin which keeps the igloo warmer than the outside weather.

4  Compact bricks of snow are cut from snow so that they are strong, and the structure is built without using any cement.

5 There are three types of igloos The three traditional types of igloos, have different sizes and exist for different purposes. The smallest was a temporary shelter during hunting trips. Normal-sized igloos were for families in a small area, which formed an Inuit village. The large igloos were two igloos together. One of them was for special occasions and the other one for living. Nearly 20 people could live there. Some very big igloos were used for feasts and traditional dances.
