1 LS Services Portfolio

2 Definitions Services – For the purpose of this exercise services are capabilities that we can conceive reusing in a number of applications, or for which NCI needs to be authoritative – Functional Profiles – groups of operations that conform to usage patterns (administration, query, management, publish) to support a responsibility (as defined by the community) – Proposed Operations – high level, maybe even abstract, expressions of actions that can support the responsibility

3 Service Taxonomy Taxonomy Level Functional ProfileOperationNotes Process Aligns with transactional capability Generally very fine grained, few operations per profile Expedia or Travlocity, Register Subject for Trial … Capability Aligns with domain objects and their states Administrative, Management, Query Specimen Management Core / Entity Aligns with Information Objects, states are for integrity Management, QueryAllergy, Agent, Drug Infrastructure Technology-specific that supports business needs, not aligned with a single line of business VariableEmail, Notification, Translation, Transformation Utility Utility functions that align with business well VariableIdentification, DeIdentification,
