D. Adjectives Adjectives is a class of words used to modify a noun or other substantives by qualifying, limiting and specifying There are 2 types of adjectives: a. Describing adjective b. Limiting adjective

Describing adjectives Normally describing adjectives answer questions “what kind” For examples : Beautiful Colorful Comfortable Enjoyable Delicious Famous Marvelous

Roses are beautiful flower High milk products intake gives you strong bones. I did an interesting topic for my bachelor project. In the last 24 hours the bacteria showed a fast growth The researchers have shown a wonderful teamwork. My students are hard workers They performed a great result on the project. Limiting adjectives Limiting adjectives consist of: 1. Article 2. Cardinal Number 3. Ordinal Number 4. Demonstrative article 5. Possessive pronoun 6. Quantity 7. Past Participle 8. Present Participle

1. Article An article acts as an adjective as shown in these examples: What is it in the test tube? The specify test tube which is in the person’s mind It is the protein sample you gave to me The specifies that protein sample in the test tube is the one which was given to the person holding the test tube

2. Cardinal Number I bought 10 souvenirs for my friends “10” specifies the amount of souvenir It answers question “How many souvenir did you buy?”

3. Ordinal Number The 2 nd repetition gave the highest rendement “2” specifies the repetition It answers question “Which repetition gave the highest rendement? I use page 200 to 250 for this lesson It limits the page numbers on the book It answers question “ which page on the text book do you use for this lesson?”

4. Demonstrative article I am going to work in that lab across the road “That” specify the laboratorium the speaker means is the one across the road It answers question “which lab are you going to work in?”

5. Possessive Pronoun (Possessive adjective) I used my natural colouring for this candy My specify natural colouring to the one which belong to the speaker only It answers question “which natural colouring did you use for this candy?”

6. Quantity I am trying to solve a lot of problem on math A lot of specify the problem in math to be solved by the speaker It answers question “how much problem are you trying to solve?”

7. Past participle The researcher inject the rats with the tumor cells. The injected rats are now having a rest My wife boils the eggs. I would like to eat only boiled eggs for my breakfast Bad handling after harvest breaks the grain It is necessary to separate the broken grain from the whole ones The cafés fry the chicken using deep pan frying I prefer to categorise fried chicken to junk foods

8. Present participle Little baby tend to cry when hungry. The crying baby is hungry. The microwave heats my meals. The heating machine for my meal is microwave. My husband is standing over there. The standing man over there is my husband. Elder people need a stick to help them walking. The walking stick is made out of wood.

“a” as an adjective “a” (limiting adjective) specify that it is not “any new study” but it is a particular study published in Public Health Nutrition Journal It answers question “which new study link frequent cooking to a longer life? Similar to “a” in “a longer life”
