sample 21 uncut corduroy fiber content: usually made of cotton or blends, best quality is long staple cotton; occasionally other fiber, even silk yarn: yarn for best quality is combed and mercerized, most are carded only fabric construction: weave uses one set of warp and weft for the ground or back, usually in a plain weave called tabby back ; the best have a twill weave ground, called twill back or Genoa back; at the uncut stage, the fabric is a sturdy, compound-woven material; may be piece dyed or printed weights, uses: bottom weight to heavy, used for very wide variety of men’s, women’s and children’s wear, including dresses, slacks, suits, jackets, sportswear, playclothes, workwear, coats, home furnishings, drapes & upholstery; uncut corduroy can be used as a firm sportswear or furnishing fabric names: French corde du roi, meaning King’s cord

sample 24 terry cloth fiber content: cotton and blends, usually with polyester, rayon also used sometimes yarn: carded yarn fabric construction: warp pile weave, usually slack-tension warp method; an interval is created between the cloth already woven and the next weft insertions; tension is left off the pile warp yarns when these weft yarns are beaten up, causing loops to be formed on either or both sides weights, uses: bottom weight to heavy, used for towels, also loungewear and sportswear—anywhere absorbency and washability plus warmth are advantages; uncut loops give best absorbency, cut loops (velour) give a luxurious, velvety hand name: terry from French tirer, meaning to pull out

sample 25 fleece knit fiber content: cotton and blends, usually with polyester, acrylic also used yarn: carded yarn fabric construction: weft knit on a special circular plain stitch machine, usually with extra-soft-twist yarn laid in to the back of the finer yarn doing the looping; the technical back of the fabric is latter napped to give a soft, fuzzy surface weights, uses: top to bottom weight; best known as sweatshirt fabric; used for sportswear, loungewear, liners & toys name: named from the coat just shorn from a sheep, reflecting the fluffy softness of the wool on the inside of the fleece
