Cornell Notes (Title) Cornell Notes (Title) ► Title of Slide ► Important Scientist Names ► Dates ► Key words & ideas (usually underlined) ► Info from textbook/stories ► Diagrams & Pictures ► Formulas ► Hint: ► Hint: Use arrows, circles or highlighting to emphasize important ideas. Date SUMMARY: Should be 3-4 sentences written to summarize the notes AFTER they have been taken.

Observations ► Use all 5 senses ► A noting and recording of…. FACTS!!! Qua l itative and Qua n titative ► Qualitative (Words) Describe Example: The table top is black. ► Quantitative (Numbers) Measurements Example: There is one TV in the room.

Inferences ► Logical conclusion based on something already known or believed to be true ► Uses observations but creates an explanation or thought Example: She is wearing a coat, it must be cold outside.

Note the Differences ► During experiments, scientists record observations NOT inferences ► Inferences are used in the conclusion in your lab report and come from research.

Write a summary of your notes ► Draw a line where your notes ended. Your summary should be 3-5 sentences long. Needs to include a synopsis of what was discussed today. Examples of what was learned can be included in your summary. SHOULD NOT BE WORD FOR WORD FROM THE NOTES.
