American Cancer Society Colleges Against Cancer is a nationwide collaboration of college students, faculty, and staff dedicated to eliminating cancer by initiating and supporting programs of the American Cancer Society in college communities.

Advantages of CAC College students are forming life-long habits (and dorm food isn’t always the healthiest) Colleges have a wide array of resources Becoming a student organization gives you the benefits that you may not otherwise be entitled to receive Relay For Life events on college campus with CAC chapters raise more money than those that do not.

Where to Start Establish campus contacts Follow your school’s procedure to become a Registered Organization, sample documents are available on the CAC page on RelayForLife.org. Complete the online chapter application. Start fighting cancer!

Suggested Activities- Survivorship Sponsoring a Survivor Brunch. Starting a support group on campus. Making dinner and dessert at a Hope Lodge. Hosting a card-making party around the holidays and sending the cards to a pediatric cancer ward.

The CAC Cancer Education program focuses on: Breast cancer Tobacco Healthy living- which encompasses nutrition, physical activity, and reproductive health. Mission Toolkits can be located at www.relayforlife.org/relay/cac/resources

Suggested Activities- Relay For Life Establish or join with a College RFL event as fundraiser and portal for volunteer recruitment Promote year-round fundraising for Relay- paint the campus purple. Serve in positions that correspond with the strategic directions. Such as Advocacy Chair, Survivor Chair, etc.

Suggested Activities- Advocacy Hosting a letter-writing party to state senators Circulating petitions about cancer-related legislation Encouraging people to register to vote Meeting with campus officials to discuss the campus going smoke-free

National Colleges Against Cancer Lead Team Leader of Hope Program

Leader of Hope Requirements Participate in 5 conference calls: At least 1 training call, 1 survivorship call, and 3 other calls, with at least four different people participating. Hold activities in all four strategic directions. Complete the Year End Report and turn in by June 1st!
