Information Architecture WG: Report of the Winter 2007 Meeting January 20, 2007 Dan Crichton, Chair NASA/JPL

Summary Technical Status 1.Information Architecture WG Goal: Develop a reference architecture and a formal representation method Working Group Status: Active _X__ Idle ___ Will be terminated __ Working Group Summary Situation: Working Group Summary progress: Information Architecture draft green book ready for agency review Active coordination with MOIMS WGs leading towards specification of registries and repositories Problems and Issues: Overlapping meeting times makes cross-coordination difficult Status:OKCAUTIONPROBLEM Comment: Progress being achieved

Executive Summary Two half day meetings were held with other WGs to discuss a plan for developing a registry model. It was decided that a 4 month effort will be conducted to define a high level architecture. A series of telecons and a face-to-face meeting will be held during this time. This was a major break-through from past meetings. Multiple CCSDS WGs and Agencies are onboard. The draft Information Architecture Green Book RASIM was discussed. No additional comments have been provided since being sent out for review in January 2007. The meeting also discussed the importance of developing some best practice case examples using RASIM modeling and functional components for science and mission operations. –Application to DSMS Information System Architecture (DISA) –Application to Constellation

Progress Achieved There was significant progress in forming a CCSDS effort for registry definition. There was also good collaboration occurring between SEA and MOIMS WGs. There was minimal input on the IA green book which defines much of the base concepts that are needed for the more detailed information architectures like registries and repositories.

Open Issues While there exists CCSDS participation in IA, it is still minimal across the agencies. –Many agencies now appear to be discussing the IA architecture concepts so the need is increasing –Having a core architecture to define the concepts is becoming critical Cross WG coordination is still difficult –WGs run different lengths which makes scheduling tough –WGs scheduled concurrently Registries work is critical across CCSDS WGs –Need participation from multiple WGs

Action Items Send meeting notes, presentations and comments to IAWG –To: Info Arch WG Members –Due: Due Feb 10, 2007 Add new participants to mailing list –To: New Participants –Due: Due Feb 10, 2007 Schedule telecons and face-to-face meeting for registries –To: Registry/Repository Members –Due: Feb 1, 2007

Resource Problems There may not be enough resource commitments from member agencies to achieve deliverables. ESA,CNES and BNSC considered important stakeholders and seem to now be doing more information architecture- related activities.

Cross Area WG / BOF Issues Need on-going coordination with MOIMS Information Packaging and Registries (IPR). –Much more partnering is occurring with a focus on how to define an information infrastructure (interfaces, specifications, architecture, components and best practices) Need to also get to the stakeholders in the other groups who have information architecture concerns/problems. Need to consider merging XSG work into IA at some point

Resolutions to be Sent to CESG and Then to CMC Send out IA Draft Green Book to Peter and request formal CESG review

New Working Items, New BOFs, etc. Focus until next meeting with be on registries and defining their architecture
