Pun Definition A joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word or the fact that there are words that sound alike but have different meanings. there was a person who sent ten different puns to his friends, with the hope that at least one of the puns would make them laugh. Unfortunately, no pun in ten did.

Pun Examples Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
When Mercutio begs Romeo to dance, Romeo refuses. Unlike Mercutio’s shoes with “nimble soles,” Romeo says that he has a “soul of lead.” From Romeo and Juiliet. “A Hymn to God the Father” by John Donne When Thou hast done, Thou hast not done / For I have more. that at my death Thy Son / Shall shine as he shines now, and hereto fore And having done that, Thou hast done; / I fear no more. One of the cleverest and most morbid poems comes as a joke from a fatally-stabbed Mercutio, who stops joking to explain that “tomorrow … you shall find me a grave man.” Grave means serious, but here it also alludes to his imminent death. Epiphany Definition A sudden, intuitive perception of or insight into the reality oressential meaning of something, usually initiated by some simple,homely, or commonplace occurrence or experience.

Epiphany Examples Lord of the Flies by: William Golding
Simon experiences an epiphany in which he "sees the perennial fall which is the central reality of our history: the defeat of reason and the release of... madness in souls wounded by fear" (Baker 12). As Simon rushes to the campfire to tell the boys of his discovery, he is hit in the side with a spear, his prophecy rejected and the word he wished to spread ignored. To Kill a Mockingbird by: Harper Lee When Scout realizes the truth about Boo Radley, and that the only reason he stays inside, is because 'he wants to stay inside'. This diffuses all previous superstitions surrounding him, and makes the audience realize just how innocent Boo Radley really is -- he's not the 'squirrel eating' monster he's made out to be Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street by: Thomas Peckett Prest When Judge Turpin gets away from Sweeney Todd after his first shot at his murder, Mr. Todd realizes that all people deserve to die. He comes to the conclusion that the lives of the wicked should be made brief and for the rest of us death would be a relief.
