7 Competition The contest between two or more people or teams

8 Sportsmanship Is the ability to treat all players, officials and fans fairly during competition

9 Good sportsmanship includes Plays their best at all time Follows the rules even when there is no referee or judge Considers the health and safety of other players Congratulates athletes on both sides for good plays Is gracious in defeat and modest in success

12 Conditioning Exercise that improves your fitness

13 Overload Is exercising your body more than usual to improve fitness

14 Progression Building up fitness gradually over a period of time

15 Specificity Pinpointing a specific part of fitness to improve

16 Crosstraining Doing different kinds of exercise during conditioning

17 Aerobic exercise Is exercise that lasts a long time and uses oxygen to get energy

18 Anaerobic exercise Doesn’t use oxygen to get energy. It last a very short time

20 Agility Being able to move your body quickly and accurately

21 Balance Helps you stay steady

22 Coordination Using your senses and body to do tasks accurately

23 Speed How quickly you can do something

24 Power Combination of strength and speed

25 Reaction time How quickly you react to something

26 Listening to your body Soreness is natural a few days after a workout If soreness does not go away is may mean your hurt. Get plenty of rest when muscles are tire Eat plenty of good food Warm-up and cool-down

28 Overcommitment Committing too much time to one or more activities

29 Signs of overcommitment Borrowing time form one activity to do another You feel like you have no free time left You cannot commit to new goals Emergencies are unexpected changes cause you to panic You miss due dates

30 Overtraining Exercising before you body has recovered or too much exercise.

31 Signs of overtraining Your not doing well during games and practice even though you’re not hurt You’re tired all the time You’re less interested in the activity. Start making excuses to avoid working hard at practice and at games Your resting heart rate increases You get hurt more often

32 Overuse injury Overtraining leads to overuse injuries – Too much exercise – Poor form – Wrong equipment

33 Healing from overuse Rest is the best Some wear casts or braces Some do special exercises
