(WWW) and the Internet The World Wide Web (WWW) is a small part of the Internet. The Internet relates to all the hardware and software involved, including the WWW. The WWW is the text and pictures on web browser

Basic Terminology

HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) Is the language of web browser uses to request pages & graphics from the web server. Example : The start of a web address such as http://www.yahoo.com

URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is just another name for a web address. The URL consists of the name of the protocol (usually HTTP or FTP) followed by the address of the computer you want to connect to

Hyperlink is a piece of text (or a graphic) on a Web page When clicked on: - Go to a different part of the same page. - Go to a different page within the Web site. -Go to a page in a different Web site - Enable to download a file - Launch an application, video or sound

ISP (Internet Service Provider) The ISP gives a connection to the Internet via telephone line or via a special digital high-speed line. Example of a popular ISP is TE-Data

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is just a way of transferring data from one place to another over the Internet. It is used for downloading large files from a web site

Using Copy and Paste To copy selected items from a Web page, use one of the following methods Select Edit and then Copy. Press + Right-click on the selected item and then click Copy. Select Edit and then Paste.
