You may only want close friends and family members in your “personal space” Touch- physical contact such as a pat on the back or a hug are positive communications. Hit and slaps are negative ways to communicate.

Physical Appearance- your appearance is one of the most powerful forms of nonverbal communication. How you look says a lot about you. Time- You spend your time being with or doing things you value most. Also being on time communicates that you are dependable. Silence- giving someone the “Silent Treatment” lets them know you might be up-set. Silence can also communicate to others that they need to be quiet.

i-messages – you say how you feel and what you think, rather than criticizing someone else.
Example: “I feel disappointed when you promise to do something with me and then don’t show up.” You messages – you are criticizing someone else rather than just letting them know how you feel. Example: “Why do you make promises to do something with me and then don’t show up. It’s rude and very disappointing.”
