Definition of Direct Learning Model Direct Teaching Model is an approach to teaching that can assist students in learning basic skills and obtain information that can be taught step by step. (Kardi dan Nur,2000a :2). Direct instructional model according to the Trianto Arends (2009: 41) is an instructional model designed specifically to support students' learning processes related to declarative knowledge and procedural knowledge are structured properly, can be taught with the pattern of activity that gradually step by step.
5
Characteristics of Direct Learning Model Kardi and Nur through Trianto (2007: 29) states that, the characteristics of Learning Models Direct (Direct Instruction) is as follows: The existence and effect model of learning objectives include assessment procedures on student learning Syntax / overall pattern and sequence of learning activities System management and learning environment necessary for certain activities can take place successfully.

Characteristics Direct Learning Model Syntax direct instructional model by Bruce and Weil (1996:349) are as follows: Orientation Presentation / Demonstration Structured exercise Guided exercises Exercise Self
8
Borich in Udin S, (1992:107) suggests direct instruction syntax as follows: Daily review Presentation of new material Guiding the student activities Provide corrections and feedback Giving free exercise. Review weekly and monthly
9
Slavin (2003:222) suggests seven steps in learning syntax directly, as follows: Inform learning purpose and orientation lessons to students. Reviewing prerequisite knowledge and skills. Convey the subject matter. Implement guidance Provide opportunities for students to practice. Assessing student performance and provide unpan behind. Provide independent practice.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Direct Learning Model

The advantages are as follows: With Direct Instruction Model Learning, teachers control the content of the material and the order information received by the students so that they can maintain a focus on what should be achieved by the students. Is the most effective way to teach concepts and skills to students who excel explicit low though. Direct Instruction Learning Model emphasizes listening activities (through lectures) and observed activities (through demonstration), which helps students learn appropriate ways this.
15
Direct Instruction Learning Model (primarily demonstration activities) may provide a challenge to consider the gap between theory (what should be) and observations (the way it is). This model can be applied effectively in large classes and small classes. Students can determine the learning objectives clearly. Time to share learning activities can be tightly controlled. In this model there is an emphasis on academic achievement.
16
This model can be used to build a model of learning in specific subject areas. Student performance can be monitored carefully. Feedback for student academic oriented. Direct Instruction Learning Model can be used to emphasize key points or difficulties which may be faced by the students. Direct Instruction Model Learning can be an effective way to teach factual information and knowledge and structured.

Disadvantages are as follows: Because the teachers played a central role in this model, the success of this study depends on the image of teachers. If teachers do not seem prepared, knowledgeable, confident, enthusiastic and structured, students can become bored, distracted, and learning will be hampered. Direct Instruction teaching model relies heavily on teacher communication style. Good communicators are less likely to make learning less well too.
19
If the material presented is complex, detailed or abstract, Direct Instruction teaching model may not give students ample opportunity to process and understand the information presented. If it is too often used Direct Instruction teaching model will make students believe that the teacher will tell all students to know. This will eliminate the sense of responsibility of the student learning itself. The demonstration relies heavily on students' observation skills. Unfortunately, many students are not a good observer so as to miss the things that are intended by the teacher.
