A change from an age when goods were made by hand to one where they are made by machine It was an age that brought both prosperity and great suffering. It all begins in Great Britain WHAT IS THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION?

The Enclosure movement- brought new and more abundant crops but displaced the common peasant. Crop rotation- Charles “Turnip” Townshed found that in the three field system the third field doesn’t have to remain fallow. Thereby this system increases production of food dramatically. Bigger and better animals. Robert Bakewell by scientific breeding will increase the size and number of animals. AGRICULTURAL REVOLUTION LEADS TO INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

The increase in food lead to an increase in Population. This increase in population moved to cities, immigrated to other countries and would become the industrial workers. Food was not the only factor for this increase. Improvements in medicine and fewer wars also were significant. INCREASE IN POPULATION

Why? 1.Abundant Natural Resources 2.Favorable geography 3.Good environment for new ideas 4.Good banking system 5.Stable government GREAT BRITAIN LEADS THE WAY IN INDUSTRIALIZATION

First steam engine was developed by Newcomen but it had problems James Watt made a steam engine that was faster and more efficient Watt was partnered with Matthew Boulton and with his financial backing continued to improve the steam engine. For the first time in history there was a moveable source of energy. It will revolutionize the manufacture of goods. WATT AND THE STEAM ENGINE

The steam engine allowed for the creation of the railroads. Hundreds of different railroads opened during the 1830s and 40s. Most all of the major cities were linked up by 1850. Effects? 1.Encouraged further industrial growth 2.2. millions of new jobs 3.Increased transportation of food 4.Increase in travel HEY, HERE COMES THE CHOO CHOO TRAIN!!!
