GLACIERS What is a glacier? Large volume of ice on land Doesn’t melt in the summer Ice moves and flows with the pull of gravity What does it take? Very cold temperatures Water! (no glaciers in Siberia)

How does a glacier erode? Like a bulldozer Scrapes off rock and soil Pile of jumbled sediments Unsorted & Unlayered

Valley Shape Rivers erode by downcutting creating canyons and V-shaped valleys Glaciers “bulldoze” through the landscape creating U-shaped valleys
