7  Empathy  The ability to share the sadness or happiness of another human being.  How can you show empathy for someone?

8 Wellness The achievement of a high level of overall health. Prevention Keeping something from happening. How can you prevent injury and illness? Hint (use the bullets on pg 8 to help you answer this question) List 3 ways to achieve good health Hint (pick three statements from the checklist on pg 9-table 1.3)

9  Self-concept  The view that you have of yourself. 13  Values  Beliefs you feel strongly about that help guide the way live.

14  What are the benefits of good decisions?  (hint- use the bullets on page 23 to help guide your answer)  Why is it important to consider your values when making a decision?  (hint- use class information and your personal opinion to answer this question in your own words)  Think of a decision that you have made in your life that was important. Explain the short and long- term effects of the decision.

15  Scenario #1- work together as a class  Scenario #2- work with a partner to help guide your decision

16 Steps for a friendly refusal Use the word “no” in your refusal Emphasize your refusal by repeating the refusal and using body language. Give reasons for refusing or list possible consequences. Suggest an alternative that includes your friend. Change the subject or walk away.

17  You will be assigned a partner to work with!  Directions- Person 1 is trying to pressure person 2 into doing something that he/she does not want to do. Please use the five steps for a friendly refusal to create a refusal skill skit!
