1 YEAR 3 ENGLISH L2 Parents’ Evening 2011

2 Class Information  24 students  2 from Czech section, 5 from the Greek section, 5 from the Spanish section, 11 from the French section, 1from English section  12 girls, 12 boys  4 lessons/week, Mon 4/5, Wed 2, Thu 4  Now the class is settled and will not be changing again

3 Course of Study GRAMMAR Revision of present simple and present continuous Revision of simple past and past continuous Present Perfect and Present perfect continuous Future tenses – will/going to Passive voice – principle tenses Question tags Reported speech – statements and questions First and Second Conditional Direct and indirect objects Use of gerunds – after certain verbs or alone

4 Course of Study Vocabulary:  Welcome Section  Communication  Friendship  Working Life  TV and Media  Survival  Good and Evil  The truth is out there!  Love  Regrets  Hopes and Fears  Happiness

5 Course of Study  Focus on the four skills:  Speaking  Reading  Writing  Listening

6 Speaking  Spoken communication is extremely important  Speaking in lessons using whole class discussions, pairwork, small group work, asking questions/making conversation  Only English is allowed in the classroom !  One or two assessed presentations given to the class during the year  Wonders of Dubai Wonders of Dubai  Galiano Galiano

8 Writing  Writing is extremely important - motivation  Correction - how much should parents help?  Too much/too little correction – both can be damaging. Blue sheets/use dictionaries  Informal vs. formal English – facebook, etc.  Copying and pasting text from the internet – zero tolerance

10 Homework and Assessment  Homeworks – mostly a week for longer assignments, and from workbook for next day/two days  Written tests – Grammar, reading, writing before each break.  Welcome test, then before Nov. half term, then before Christmas holiday, then before Feb. half term, etc.

11 Criteria for Assessment  1. Hard work  2. Active participation in lessons  3. Punctuality in submitting assignments  4. Presentation of work (classwork and homework)  5. Consistency  6. Oral contributions  7. Evidence of progress  8. Results of tests
