3. Gibbons v. Ogden (1824) Steam boat operator, Thomas Gibbons had a federal licenses to travel across the Eastern coast, but he didn't have a state-license for New York. He competed with Aaron Ogden for a steam travel between the states of New Jersey and the New York of Manhattan. They decided on March 2, 1824, with a vote of 6-0 that they ruled the favor of Gibbons. The court stated that the congressional statue (Gibbons' Federal license) took over the state statute. (Ogden's state-monopoly license). This ruling also made trade of commerce simple to trade goods, and transportation of people easy.
