Second Quarter EQT Review Practice Problems
The Second Quarter EQT in math will cover ALL the objectives you’ve learned in both first and second quarters. It will cover place value, division, multiplication, decimals, fractions and order of operations. If you have questions, it’s your job to raise your hand and ask!!!!!
2
Let’s Practice! Remember, raise your hand and ask questions about things you’re not sure about!
Directions: Using PEMDAS, solve the problem. Think! What does PEMDAS stand for? What do you have to know to solve order of operations problems? 6 X (4 + 15) – 12 + (7 X(56-19)) 60 ÷ (24 ÷ 2) X 4³ + 25
3
Remember, when writing your own equations, the order of the numbers must make sense! Does 5 ÷ 20 make sense? Why? Does 4 – 18 make sense? Why? A. Add 5 and 8 and multiply the sum by 9. B. Subtract 8 from 20 and divide by 4. C. Multiply 3 and 9. Next subtract 13 from the product.
4
Place Value Practice How is the 4 in 894 different from the 4 in 245? Explain your answer. A. The 4 in both numbers is in the tens place. B. The 4 in the 245 is 1/10 the value of the 4 in 894. C. The 4 in the 245 is ten times the value of the 4 in 894. D. The 4 in 894 is ten times the value of the 4 in 245.

In the number 10³, which number is the base
In the number 10³, which number is the base? Which number is the exponent? The “base” is the same as what? A. A multiplication problem B. A multiple C. A factor What does the exponent number tell you to do? A. How many times to divide the base. B. How many times to add the base. C. How many times to multiply the base. D. How many times to subtract the base.
6
Place Value…Can you READ it?
What is the place right behind the decimal? What is the place two places behind the decimal? What is the place in front of the decimal? What is the place three places behind the decimal? What is the difference between the tens place and the tenths place? Read the following numbers: A. Three hundred seventy-two thousand, five hundred seven and twenty- four hundredths B. Five and one hundred twenty-eight thousandths C. Sixteen and nine thousandths
7
Place Value What is standard form? What is expanded form?
Read the number and write it in word form and expanded form. A B. 8.3 C D E. 34,
8
Compare the numbers using ˃ ,˂ and =.
9
Rounding Numbers and Decimals
Round to the nearest tenth. 3.59 b c Round to the nearest hundredth. 3.593 b c Round to the nearest whole number. b c
10
Multiplication What is a factor? What is a product?
A. 39 X 91 B X 38 C. 2,493 X 7 D. Mike collects baseball cards. Each package of baseball cards contains 30 cards. If Mike buys 28 packages, how many cards does Mike purchase in all? E. Mandy is having a party. If 8 people can sit at each table and she’s renting 38 tables, how many people is Mandy planning to have at her party? F. 15 X ____ = 135 G. Using the break apart method, can you draw an area array and multiply 49 X 27?
11
Division What is a quotient? Dividend? Divisor?
Sandy got a prize point for every 5 raffle tickets she sold. She sold 1,455 tickets. How many prize points did she earn? Mrs. Estes was playing a game with the 5th graders. She had 14 groups of players. Each group contained 31 students. How many students were playing the game? 9,150 ÷ 49 = ? The 5th grade is going to the Sea Lab in vans. If 341 students are going and each van holds 16 students, how many vans will be needed to transport ALL 341 students. How do you check division? Divide 398 by 4 and prove your answer by checking with multiplication.
12
Fractions What are fractions? What are the three kinds of fractions?
How do you show a mixed number as a fraction? How do you simplify a fraction? What operation do you use to create an equivalent fraction? What do you have to know to add and subtract fractions? What do you have to know to multiply fractions? What do you have to know to divide fractions?
