Talking about habits or things that happen regularly.
Generally people leave work at 5.30.

3. With verbs that perform the action they describe:
Accept,acknowledge,advise,apologise,assume,deny,guarantee,
hope,inform,predict,promise,recommend,suggest,suppose,warn.
I refuse to believe that he didn’t know the car was stolen.(refusal)
I admit I can’t see as well as I used to.(admission)

4. Performative verbs with modals:
I would advise to arrive two hours before the flight leaves.
I ‘m afraid I have to inform you your application turned down.
With state verbs:
Agree,assume,believe,belongto,contain,cost,
Disagree,feel,hate,have,hope,know,like,look,love
own,prefer,realise,regret,resemble,smell,taste.

5. Reporting what we have heard or what we have read:
This newspaper article explains why unemployment has been rising so quickly.
To introduce news that we have heard,read or seen with phraases I gather,I hear,I see,I understand etc. :
The prince is coming to visit, and I hear he is very rich.

7. Usage of present continuous tense:
To talk about actions or events that begun but haven’t ended at the time of speaking:
The car isn’t starting again.
We can use present cont. or present simple to describe something that we regularly do at a particular time:
We usually watch the news on the TV at 9.00
We usually watching the news on TV at 9.00.

8. We use present cont. to imply that a situation is or may be temporary:
She teaches Maths in a school.(permanent arrangement)
She is teaching Maths in a school.(this isn’t or may not be permanent)

9. We use present cont. when we talking about changes,developments and trends:
The growing number of visitors is damaging the footpaths.
We use present cont. when we want to emphasise that sth is done repeatedly.
They are constantly having parties until the early hours of the morning.
