Method Overview Medicine trials are very complex processes with need for huge amounts of data and the ability to effectively process them. ICT solves that problem, but new challenges arise. The requirements elicitation aspect is considered crucial for the successful design and implementation of ICT tools for trials In Widya et al. (2009), a task and goal-oriented method for eliciting and evaluating requirements for telemedicine systems used in medicine trials was proposed.

Creators of the method Creators are: I.Widya, R.Bults, H.Hermens, R.J.F. van Beijnum, V.Jones, L.Schaake, Veld and L.Sandsjo. The first 5 are working at the University of Twente, Widya as an assistant professor for telemedicine, Bults as an ICT developer, Beijnum as an assistant professor, Hermens as professor of Neuromuscular control and Telemedicine and Jones as researcher and associate professor with interest in remote monitoring and treatment. Sandsjo is an assistant researcher in Gothenburg University.

Main Phases (1/2) Scenario Development : a set of method inputs, like the trial design and a scenario are drawn by the trial experts Requirements Elicitation : The actual requirements elicitation takes place through input analysis, interview conduction and requirements evaluation. Requirements Assessment : The set of requirements is assessed under different stakeholder points of view. This phase might lead to requirements re-elicitation or even a whole trial re-design (as a result of feedback provided to both previous phases).

Main Phases (2/2)

Related Literature (1/3) Requirements elicitation is the sub-process of service engineering focused on the collection of the system requirements from the stakeholders (Sommerville & Sawyer, 1997). Healthcare is not similar to many domains and it requires complex solutions as Cysneiros, (2002) noticed. A lot of methods for requirements elicitation for healthcare are proposed and are based on different techniques.

Related Literature (2/3) Techniques for Requirements Elicitation (Cysneiros, 2002) Interviews and group meetings Literature study Stakeholder analysis Video and audio analysis Use cases, scenarios Treatment modeling Reverse engineering Usually, more than one techniques used (Beus- Dukic and Alexander, 2008; Haumer, Pohl and Weidenhaupt, 1998)

Related Literature (3/3) This method is applied in a European project, the eTEN project MyoTel, where the feasibility of a myofeedback teletreatment service, which allows remote treatment supervision for patients with neck- shoulder pains, was investigated. It is also used in Widya et al. (2010), a research about the development of a guideline, through the combination of the PACT framework and medical principles of evidence-based medicine, which is used for the design of scenarios for requirements elicitation in telemedicine.

PDD overview 3 main activities 15 sub-activities 12 Concepts Quite complex PDD due to the nature of the method The method delivers a set of requirements in the form of a list.

PDD Zoom In (1/2) The method is a prime example of collaboration between stakeholders with different backgrounds This helps in achieving a complete solution for the requirements elicitation, covering all stakeholder needs

PDD Zoom In (2/2) Various phases contribute to the elicitation of requirements This makes the final requirements list as complete as possible The ICT tool will be the best possible under the current situation
