Course Selection Sheet O Instructions: O Review the courses with your student. O Circle preferred required courses and the elective class with your student. O A band application has been provided and is on our website. O Please attach band application to course selection sheet. O Sign the form and return to your student’s teacher by the deadline listed on the last slide. The required courses will be determined by the middle school counselor upon review of the prerequisites listed on the next two slides.

Honors LA and Reading O Students will experience the same Standards of Language Arts/ Reading with enhanced in-depth discussions, thinking and writing more critically, reading higher level text, and exploring abstract concepts.

Common Core Math Accelerated O Students will experience the same Standards of Common Core Math 6 with enhanced performance tasks and problem solving.

Common Core Math 6 Accelerated Prerequisites O Advanced scores in Math on report card and performance task O Excellent study habits O Excellent citizenship (E) O Teacher Recommendation

Required Courses O Language Arts O Reading O History O Math O Science O Physical Education – students will not dress out (alternating days) O Elective – Band or Expo (alternating days)

Elective Choices All electives require 1 year commitment General Electives to select from: O Beginning Band -It is suggested that the student be exposed to a musical instrument over the summer to confirm the student wants to be in band for the entire year. O Intermediate Band - Must have 1 year experience

Elective Choices Expo O Study Skills – First 6 weeks of school O Organization, test taking skills, learning modality O Focus is on the best ways to have a successful year as a 6 th grader. O Expo Art – remainder of school year. O The students will experience art instruction in different mediums of art materials
