Meet Nicole Nicole is a 17 year old high school student She has her driver’s license and a car Nicole is a member of the soccer team at her high school Nicole has two younger brothers She enjoys working with people

Nicole Needs a Job Nicole is preparing her college applications and she needs to have work experience to list on her applications Nicole is responsible for getting her younger brothers off the school bus How can she work at a job too?

What Should Nicole Do? First, Nicole needs to understand what she NEEDS Next, Nicole needs to determine if the job she selects SATISFIES her needs

What Does Nicole Need? 1) She needs a job for her college applications 2) She needs to find a job that matches her interests and personal goals 3) She needs to find a job that will allow her the time to take her brothers off of the school bus 4) She needs a job that will allow her to be on the team during the soccer season

Does the Job Satisfy Nicole? 1)Will the job allow Nicole to learn skills that she can use at another job? 2) Does the job pay enough for Nicole to balance her personal budgets? 3)Will Nicole still have energy for her social life and the soccer team?

Other Considerations How much will she be paid? Is there overtime pay? Where will she park her car? How will she dress? Are her working hours flexible? Will she have off on holidays?

Other Considerations What are the tasks that she is being hired to do? Can she do the tasks? When does she receive raises? Will she receive training?

The Potential Employer’s Needs An employee for a cashier position: –Who likes to work with customers –Who can work 6pm-9pm three nights a week –Who has their own transportation –Who is reliable

Some Recommendations for Nicole 1)Make a list of her needs 2)Talk to her potential employer regarding her needs 3)See if her needs can be matched with the employers needs 4) Make a decision to accept or reject the job 5) Inform the employer of her decision
