Split into groups and brainstorm your ideas on the 2 following questions: What are the benefits to me of doing a work placement ? How should I approach searching for a placement? (What do I need to do to prepare for my search?)Ways of searching? Sources of Advice? )

STEP 1 – Register with the placements service to discuss your interests and get your CV approved & add in a link to your portfolio STEP 2 – Search: - Reactive (mail outs from the placements team) - Check the blog http://www.msdm.org.uk/work-place/http://www.msdm.org.uk/work-place/ - Proactive (identify companies you want to approach speculatively STEP 3- Use the placements service to: -Review draft applications -Provide Support for Mock Interviews -Provide Support when you find a placement

Your placement or placements must equate to a minimum of 70 hours activity You must notify the placements service when you find a placement and before you start work The placements team must contact your employer to check details before you start work

Targeted CV and covering letter (demonstrate an understanding of the business) Identify appropriate skills (with evidence) match to the job/ USPs Strong portfolio linked to your CV Use the placements service Check the blog- we will post opportunities to apply for Use your contacts
