9 German cataloging rules German rules: RAK (Regeln für die alphabetische Katalogisierung) Established in 1977, used by: Die Deutsche Bibliothek (Frankfurt/Main) All university libraries and most of the special libraries All public libraries

14 PICA GBV Lower Saxony was the first state to use the PICA system in Germany Today seven states belong to the GBV (Gemeinsamer Bibliotheksverbund – Joint Library Network): Bremen, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Mecklenburg-West Pomerania), Sachsen-Anhalt (Saxony-Anhalt), Schleswig-Holstein, Thüringen (Thuringia)
