6 High Point Basics Unit 18, Transparency 91, T292d In the year 2061, something wonderful will suddenly appear in our night sky. It will look like a fuzzy star with a long tail. It will be visible for a few nights, then disappear. This visitor from space is Halley’s Comet.

7 High Point Basics Unit 18, Transparency 91, T292d Most comets are visible only through a telescope, but not Halley’s. People are able to see it without a telescope. Halley’s Comet is special for another reason. It keeps coming back!

8 High Point Basics Unit 18, Transparency 91, T292d The Chinese wrote about this comet in 240 B.C. After that, people saw a bright comet every seventy-six years or so. In 1682, a man named Halley figured it out. He predicted that the comet would reappear in 1720, and it did! Halley’s Comet will be back in 2061. So mark your calendars!
