Elitism Judges most English judges are white, middle-class males Magistrates They are lay people who respected and responsible members of their local community All branches of the profession are dominated by men from the middle and upper classes.

Jury system has some weak points ------uneducated jurors May not able to follow a complex case May easily be swayed by a speech from a persuasive attorney Therefore verdicts by jury may not be very reliable

Traditional dress in court The English judicial costume is said to be itchy, unhygienic, and uncomfortable. At present, wigs & robes worn by judges & barristers can seen as preserving an unnecessary and distancing formality.

The salaries of Chinese judges are not high enough Main causes: Britain: A judge in High Court have about £65,000/year, in Court of Appeal has about £71,500/year China: Salaries of judges is not more than the police

Another problem in the Chinese legal system Corruption Survey : though 78.9% quite satisfy with the legal condition in Shanghai, but they also worry about the corruption of legal system (a survey from Shanghai, in 2002) Two main causes: The system of supervision is not strict The quality of the Judges is not good enough
