3. Why Do Science Fair? A science fair project can give your child the first chance to design his or her own learning experience. Students will be able to explore personal interests to select an area for his or her science fair project, as well as learn the scientific method to answer a question. Each student will also develop skills above and beyond science proficiency, such as:  Reading Comprehension and Writing: Doing background research and writing a research paper  Math: Creating graphs and performing data analysis  Time Management: Planning a multi-step project  Communication: Presenting and explaining the science fair project  Ethics Understanding: Learning about plagiarism and the importance of credit and citations

4. What is a Science Fair Project?  A science fair project consists of a testable experiment that answers yes or no to a hypothesis.  Lots of resources to help you online. (see QR-Codes and Scan them!)  It is not making a model – solar system, volcano, airplane, etc.  It is not a demonstration.

5. What is most important part of project?  Once you know what you want to TEST (independent variable) and what you expect to be the OUTCOME (Dependent variable), you pretty much have what needs to be done.  Come up with your own experimental design, DON’T REPLICATE – That means copy another experiment. 6. What Makes a Great Project?  Inspirational entry or idea - does it really stand out?  Capacity to make an impact - could the science demonstrated make a real difference to science or the world around us?  Excellence of method - have you demonstrated real skill in your science/engineering planning and implementation of your experiment(s)?  Communication skills - enthusiasm, clarity, confidence, effective use of media, diagrams and graphs.

THE BOARD  Color: Very important to make attractive  Placement: Look must be neat and professional  Spelling – Check it and check it again  Use scientific terms, metric measurements  Check significant figures when converting to metric.  Use scientific names  Know the meaning of all objects and verbs on your board.
