Opening Vista Double click the Vista Icon to launch the program. It is the purple icon with the black V on it, and says “VISTA 2d-3d Seismic Pr…”

Start up A couple windows pop up upon first opening Vista. If you don’t want to view them in the future uncheck the box that says show tips on startup.

Licensing Issue If you have not used Vista before, the top right of the screen will display the words DEMO. There is a licensing issue we must fix before starting. 1. Click license, then from the drop down menu choose “Options Soft/Hard Key” 2. A window opens up displaying some licensing options. Check the box that says “RLM Reprise Soft Key”. Click OK.

Creating a new project 1. Click File then New Project from the dropdown menu. 2. Save your project as something like Stratton_class_(your initials) 3. Click Save

Creating a new project After you click save a new window pops up. 4. Be sure that 3-D Survey is selected. 5. The units must also be set to Feet. 6. Click OK

Loading your data A blank project data set will greet you next. 1. Click on the 3D icon near the top left of the window.

Loading your data A new row appears displaying “NEW 3-D DATA” but it’s blank because we haven’t added any data yet! 2. Left click and hold the green plus icon. As you hold down the mouse button you can scan over different data input types. 3. Choose Segy Data. The icon looks like this

Loading your data 4. Select the file you downloaded form D2L: stratton3d_class 5. Click open

Loading your data An Input Seg-y window appears now. You can check your headers here. Headers can be a real headache. 6. Under the Trace Header tab, click the arrow to scroll through different traces and make sure everything looks normal. Click okay when you are satisfied and the data will load up.

Loading your data Uh-oh. Looks like we didn’t check those values thoroughly enough. We can fix this issue later though, when Thang is back. Click OK and continue

Trace View Exit out of the Transfer Info Seismic Window to return to the primary project dataset window. 1. Click on the white icon with three black traces on it.

Trace View 2. Traces can be sorted and displayed by shot or receiver. Once sorted you can scroll through different shots and receivers using the scrollbar at the top. Try it out!
