Colored Pencils

What is a colored pencil? a pencil containing a wax & pigment as its "lead". They are semi-opaque accept for white, cream and grey. A good quality brand we will be using is Prismacolor Pencils.

Blending… the process of combining layers of color together by over lapping lightly Use light colors over darks to blend within the same color family Example: Use yellow to blend warm colors in the apples. See how the red is blended into yellow so the apples look realistic!

Burnishing using a white or light colored pencil with heavy pressure over several light layers of built up color. It makes the colors look brighter, sometimes lighter and can give an image a polished or reflective look. With Burnishing

The pencil wax fills in the paper tooth and gives the surface a slick, polished appearance. Apply over layered colored area to be burnisheheavy pressure d. Burnished: fills up the entire tooth of the paper Not Burnished: gaps and white space left on the paper

Intensity the saturation, strength or purity of a color that is controlled by pencil pressure. Vivid, bright color = high intensity Dull, faded color = low intensity More Intensity Less Intensity

Adding Value and Shading When trying to create realistic shading with colored pencil, use a complimentary color instead of black. Red – Green Red – Green Yellow – Violet Yellow – Violet Blue - Orange Blue - Orange Here is a red sphere that is modeled by using green Yellow fruit is modeled by using violet
