Curriculum begins as soon as 1 st period starts (8:15). Students who enter later than 8:20 will be marked late. Healthy snack Read Alouds *(now include formal questions and responses) Homework increases to about 45-60 minutes daily Tests/quizzes continue to be about 2-3 weekly

Things students should know to be prepared for September How to write complete sentences How to write 3 paragraph essays How to use journals for note-taking and daily journaling How to elaborate on ideas and add detail Use dialogue Things students will learn in the upcoming year The writing process How to write 5 paragraph essays How to write personal narratives, character analysis, biographies, poetry, and book reviews (Writer’s Workshop & journals)

Things students should know to be prepared for September Read “No Talking” and at least 3 other “just right” books Read a minimum of 30 minutes daily to build reading stamina Things students will learn in the upcoming year How to write about reading (character analysis, reflection, and letters) Different reading strategies How to analyze, and discuss reading Read Alouds (Reader’s Workshop)
