3  Curriculum begins as soon as 1 st period starts (8:15). Students who enter later than 8:20 will be marked late.  Healthy snack  Read Alouds *(now include formal questions and responses)  Homework increases to about 45-60 minutes daily  Tests/quizzes continue to be about 2-3 weekly

5  Things students should know to be prepared for September  Addition & subtraction facts by memory  How to add & subtract multi- digit numbers  Multiplication and division Facts through 100 by memory  Measuring customary and metric units  Comparing and ordering fractions  Number sense (place value to ten thousands)  Money  Area and Perimeter  Geometric shapes  Things students will learn in the upcoming year  Multi-digit multiplication  Long division  Fractions & fraction to decimal conversions  Equivalent fractions  Adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions  Geometry  Word problems/pre- algebra/bar modeling  Measuring angles  (Singapore Math)

6  Things students should know to be prepared for September  How to write complete sentences  How to write 3 paragraph essays  How to use journals for note-taking and daily journaling  How to elaborate on ideas and add detail  Use dialogue  Things students will learn in the upcoming year  The writing process  How to write 5 paragraph essays  How to write personal narratives, character analysis, biographies, poetry, and book reviews  (Writer’s Workshop & journals)

7  Things students should know to be prepared for September  Read “No Talking” and at least 3 other “just right” books  Read a minimum of 30 minutes daily to build reading stamina  Things students will learn in the upcoming year  How to write about reading (character analysis, reflection, and letters)  Different reading strategies  How to analyze, and discuss reading  Read Alouds  (Reader’s Workshop)

8  Things students should know to be prepared for September  High frequency spelling words  Things students will learn in the upcoming year  Vocabulary will be infused throughout core subjects.  More about prefixes, suffixes, and root words
