Feedback (and coaching) “…work on your sentence structure related to "run-on" sentences and sentences that are so long that they become confusing.” (EDLP 700) “Capitalize the word following the colon” and “Journal pages are just alone and not with a pp or p.” (EDLP 715) “Something to consider for organization and clarity, Post-racial was mentioned early in a quote though it has not been defined and here it is mentioned in the context of discussing whether the leader was successful. For the leader, it leaves questions.” (EDLP 715) “Good analysis – This ability will serve you well later in the program” (EDLP 703) “Thanks for the high quality analysis that you provided in completing this assignment. I've attached your document with my comments. Phil, you will be docked 2.5 points on participation for missing one class session (25% of 10 points), but as with the point loss on your Moral Reasoning paper for lateness, neither deduction reflects the deep and thoughtful way you've tackled the course content this semester.” (EDLP 704)

Lessons Learned: Personality Inventory Results MBTI results are congruent with past administrations of this inventory LCI results are congruent with the author’s self-knowledge, particularly in the light of experiences in the program this year Detail oriented, perhaps to the point of fastidiousness Strong need for clarity and logic in assignments, and frustration with unclear expectations Determination to complete assignments thoroughly, focusing on one at a time, and willingness to take extra time for final reviews and editing Negative ramifications include tendency to: Procrastinate or to feel overwhelmed Avoid distasteful assignments until time pressures force action Waste time/energy railing against unclear directions

The End of the Year: Won Well, yes, at first we compared ourselves that first morning in Oliver Hall. It was a Saturday. Summer. Downtown Richmond was empty, it seemed. We walked through echoes up those stairs, and found the room that belonged to us. So this was where that endless application brought us! I sat at a table in the back, fiddled with my papers, new notebooks, chatted with Tracey (Tracy?) – (good to meet you, I know, me too, I was afraid I might be late, where did you park?). Minutes passed. How do doctoral students sit I wondered, am I doing it right? Dr. Magill broke the ice. Why are you here, she asked. What has brought you to this place? Madly I rehearsed my answer and then we stood and said our things. I recall not a word of it. Tonight, I sat at my dining room table, and saw the pings and emails from my friends, all asking how are you doing? Can I help? Will you be OK?
