BEFORE Discuss back channeling, specifically using http://todaysmeet.com/, with an 8 th grade science teacher prior to a lab. http://todaysmeet.com/ How might it be used prior to the lab including posting vocabulary, specific identification methods, body parts, definitions, etc.? How might it be used following the activity including sharing search results, identification ideas, congratulatory messages, and suggestions for the next activity? Demonstrate and try the process, anticipate ease of usage, prepare rules for students to follow, and post the link on the school-wide classroom management system for all students to use, setting time parameters.

DURING Demonstrate back channeling to students, specifically using http://todaysmeet.com/, prior to the lab.http://todaysmeet.com/ On the day prior to the lab, display vocabulary, names, specific identification methods, body parts, definitions, etc. Have students share their thoughts and ideas during the class. Discuss how back channeling will be used following the activity including sharing search results, identification ideas, and congratulatory messages. On the day of the activity, students will do the lab, recording their results and taking photos of finds.

Ask students for feedback about using back channeling.

AFTER Meet with the science teacher to discuss the activity. Discuss the effectiveness of using back channeling as part of the lab. What went well? What could have been better? What would you change the next time you used the activity? In what other ways could you use back channeling in your classroom?
