The project Roots for Reconciliation (RfR) with planned budget at minimum € 570’000 is initiated by the YMCA Europe for the benefit of its member and cooperating Movements in the Caucasus region. - roots for reconciliation ICCO – Netherlands and EED – Germany are the key donors of the initiative, respectively with Dutch and German Governments as back-donors. The project considers significant co-funding, secured both through the YMCA MD system (particularly USA, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, etc.) as well as through non - YMCA sources (HEKS – Switzerland, Aramian Foundation – USA, etc.).

The developmental goal of the project is to promote participatory democracy building and peaceful transformation of the conflicts in the region of Caucasus. - roots for reconciliation The specific project objective set to be achieved within the project implementation period (i.e. 2007 – 2009) is as follows: Through developing camping programme as a strong and tested leadership and cooperation building facility and measure, to further strengthen and extend the YMCA Movement in the Caucasus, as a mass- membership, ecumenical network standing for integrity of creation, peace and justice.

In order to reach the above project objective the YMCA Europe in cooperation with the YMCA Movements in the region and other international and local partner organisations are to secure the achievement of the following intermediate results: - roots for reconciliation Series if Training Programme Developer seminars enrolling up to 30 participants per year and developing human resources within the targeted Movements for effective planning, implementation and monitoring of the scheduled Reunion sub-projects.

The YMCA Europe General Assemblies providing platform for regular meetings of the representatives from each targeted Movement and their YMCA partners, and securing participatory and considered decision-making on selection of the submitted Reunion sub-projects for each year. - roots for reconciliation Thematic Reunion sub-projects, including prior leader training seminars, to be held region-wide and beyond and reaching up to 100 kids during the project Year 1 (2007), 250 during Year 2 (2008) and Year 3 (2009).

YMCA Resource Centres (RCs) with residential facilities to be established and / or upgraded in Armenia, Georgia and Karabagh, providing cost- effective venue for Reunion sub-projects within this project, the YMCA camping and youth tourism self- sustainable network in supplement, simultaneously serving as YMCA day centres for youth from the marginalized communities where those facilities are located. - roots for reconciliation Series of Programme Forums enrolling up to 30 local and international participants per year, to evaluate the results and display best practices of each season, and providing platform for coordination and consolidation of partner commitments towards further programme delivery.

- roots for reconciliation The Roots for Reconciliation is designed and is in process of implementation clearly in line with the three pillars of the World YMCA Global Operating Plan, as well as with the key priorities of the YMCA Europe Role and Strategy 2006 – 2011, namely: Mission Awareness, Relevant Programmes, Institutional Viability. Meantime all the project components are to be tailored based on DoNoHarm methodology, whereby it concerns the development of the YMCA Movement in the region through planned SMs, the community work through RCs or peace building through Reunions.
